About Hentschel
Hentschel is a North American clock manufacturer that is located in
Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, and Buffalo, NY. They have been making clocks
since 1890. Hentschel uses Hermle clock movements. All North American
grandfather clock manufacturers use Hermle or Kieninger movements. Both
Hermle and Kieninger are German-make clock movements, and both are high
quality. Hentschel does offers one bonus in this regard; with all of their
models starting with number 3084 and higher, they offer the Hermle
flagship movement which is considered the biggest and the best grandfather
clock movement in the clock industry by many.
The most salient distinction between Hentschel
and all other North American Grandfather clock manufacturers is the
quality of their cabinetry. Since all of the movements come from Germany,
the remaining work is really the cabinet, and the assembly of the clock.
Hentschel is meticulous in this regard.
Starting with their least expensive Forest Hill Collection, their cabinets
are solid hardwood, not plywood or other wood veneers, with the only
exception being the clock dial surround on some of their models. Hentschel
is the only North American clock producer that still makes all of their
clock cabinets from solid hardwood. Their bonnets (on the top of the
clock) and their runners (on the sides of the clock) are made of single
pieces of solid wood. There are no seams where different pieces of wood
are pieced together. Hentschel also provides superior top and back
finishing on all of their clock cabinets, and all of their cabinet backs
are screwed into the cabinet as opposed to stapled.
They offer the most cabinet finishes of any
manufacturer. All of their clocks are hand built one at a time for each
customer. That is why there is a 2 to 3 week lead-time on the delivery of
their clocks, but this allows each customer to select the finish and other
options that they want for their clock. And if someone wants a Forest Hill
Collection clock as a semi- custom item, that can be arranged also.
All in all, Hentschel offer a really superior product at comparable or
lower price. And their wall clocks and mantel clocks are also made with
solid wood cases and with the same attention to detail.
We have closely compared Hentschel cabinetry
to other North American Grandfather clock manufacturers. Although other
North American Grandfather clock manufacturers produce nice grandfather
clocks, we have seen too much plywood, wood veneer, seamed hardwood
pieces, coarsely finished clock tops and backs, and even cabinets
prefabricated in China.
In summary, Hentschel is a great supplier of
truly fine grandfather clocks. If one looks closely at Hentschel
grandfather clocks vs. other grandfather clocks, the differences will
become apparent. We have clocks from different North American Grandfather
clock manufacturers in our display area, and the differences are stunning
when the clocks are side-by-side. Why pay more for less?
The Hentschel Story
Time and time
again, Hentschel is noted for its dedication to excellence. Each
timepiece is crafted with the same pride that has gone into every
Hentschel original since 1890.
From the start of
our collection, The Shelby, to the stately Somerset, Hentschel begins with
quality designs, then selects only the finest hardwoods and veneers to
create quality heirloom clocks.
Engineered in
Germany by Hermle, the movement in each Hentschel grandfather clock is of
exact precision. The beat of the lyre pendulum rhythmically chime the
classic cathedral melodies of Westminster, Whittington, or St. Michael.
Take comfort in
knowing the art of handcrafted workmanship is alive and well at Hentschel.
Each clock is hand-assembled and hand-finished in seven separate
painstaking steps. No assembly line finishes here. We create family
heirlooms ...one clock at a time.
A
Hentschel grandfather clock, with its heritage, adds immensely to its
legacy as a family heirloom. Exquisite beauty and harmonious design
render any Hentschel grandfather clock a joy to own and pass on from
generation to generation.
The Hentschel Guarantee
After a meticulous
inspection by a qualified control technician, each Hentschel clock is
tested and run for a minimum of 24 hours before leaving the factory. We
are so confident in our clocks that we warranty the clock for a full 2
year period from date of purchase.
